Brings High-Tech, Business Start-Up Expertise to Help Build Successful Allworx Business
ROCHESTER , N.Y. , December 8, 2005 - A former top telecommunications executive-turned-educator and investor in high-tech start-ups has joined the Board of Directors of InSciTek Microsystems Inc., which manufactures and markets the Allworx family of VoIP-based office communications systems for small and medium-sized businesses, the company announced today. Dr. Carl Pavarini, whose expertise extends to communications technologies and business start-ups, brings to InSciTek a wealth of knowledge about the telecommunications industry, technology trends and business success, the company said.
Dr. Pavarini crafted a 26-year career with Lucent Technologies and AT&T/Bell Labs, which included management responsibility for Lucent (now Avaya) small-business telecommunications products for global markets. He worked at Bell for 10 years in applied research and product development, and subsequently held numerous business management positions at AT&T and later Lucent/Avaya. Dr. Pavarini’s assignments ranged from oversight of billion-dollar existing businesses to internal business start-ups in new markets and product segments. He was a vice president and a corporate officer of both Lucent/Avaya and AT&T, moving full-time into teaching and investing in 1999.
“We consider ourselves fortunate to have Carl’s stature and experience on our board and available to us for counsel and support,” said George Daddis Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of InSciTek Microsystems. “He has an active interest in this business, and he shares our belief that the market is primed for VoIP-based office communications for small and medium-sized businesses – and that Allworx is the right system. Allworx VoIP office communications systems deliver tangible cost savings and a simple path for businesses to easily transition into VoIP, while effectively exploiting the major shift taking place from today’s analog Key telephone systems. Carl’s practical business expertise will only help us accelerate our market potential.”
“I see a tremendous amount of management, technical and marketing talent at InSciTek,” Dr. Pavarini said. “George and his team are doing all the right things to build a successful business by providing an office communications system to small and medium-sized enterprises that can transform the way business is done. Allworx is the only system I know of that that delivers the revenue generation and cost benefits of VoIP technology to smaller businesses, at the same price of the telephone systems those businesses use today. It’s an exciting, challenging time in telecommunications. InSciTek is well positioned to capitalize on it, and I’m pleased to be a part of it.”
Dr. Pavarini is an investor in and advisor to several advanced technology start-up companies involved in telecommunications, Internet infrastructure, optical and communications components, and applications software. He works with “angel” investors and venture capitalists, and serves on the boards of several private high-tech companies in addition to InSciTek.
He also is currently a Visiting Executive at Stevens Institute of Technology, and an adjunct professor in the School of Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He previously taught entrepreneurship in telecommunications and electronic media in the MBA program at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business.
Dr. Pavarini earned BS and MEng degrees in electrical engineering and a PhD in systems engineering, all from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He completed the MIT Sloan School of Management’s Program for Senior Executives in 1986, and France’s INSEAD International Management Program in 1989.
